State of the Economy:
Macroeconomic and fiscal policy is another important area of SPDC research. The post-budget report titled 'State of the Economy' is a regular publication which evaluates the federal and provincial budgets. The report examines the government priorities with respect to social development in Pakistan and the nexus that exists between macroeconomic policies and social development.
These contain detailed analyses of data, issues and situations addressed. These reports present the findings of research in a technical manner useful to both the researchers and the managers of social sector services.
These synthesize existing research knowledge on a policy or practice issue of importance and is written in a language which an interested non-expert would find accessible. Its purpose is to convince the target audience of the urgency of the current problem and the need to adopt the preferred alternative or course of action outlined and therefore, serve as an impetus for action.
They help share ideas about a topic and elicit feedback before submitting to a peer reviewed conference or academic journal.
They suggest changes for improvement of public policy and are sent to policy-makers in the government besides being distributed to politicians and senior bureaucrats.
These are presented to delegates for comments and suggestions and are subsequently revised and produced as part of the Conference Proceedings and in some instances as Policy Papers.
They cover a wide range of issues related to gender, resource mobilisation, expenditure planning, expansion and delivery of social services in the provinces of Pakistan. SPDC has published three books namely Resource Mobilisation and Expenditure Planning in the Provinces of Pakistan, Provincial Governments and the Social Sectors in Pakistan, and In Search of Gendered Development: A Compendium.
